June 28—29 Ballet Festival
Since their last appearance at The Joyce Theater’s Ballet Festival in 2015, Joshua Beamish/MOVETHECOMPANY has continued to thrill audiences, most recently at Canada's National Arts Centre and in the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s 2017 Next Wave Festival. This season, the Vancouver and New York based company returns with the world premiere of Beamish's new full-length work The Masque of the Red Death, inspired by the Edgar Allan Poe short story. The work explores the different color palettes, moods, and social context presented in Poe’s gothic tale, and features recorded narration by exceptionally gifted soprano Jessye Norman, winner of the 2006 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Joyce’s Ballet Festival is presented with generous support by John & Margaret Falk and Susan & Greg Pappajohn. Lead support provided by the Rudolf Nureyev Dance Foundation. Special support provided by First Republic Bank.
