Fagan Technique Workshop
Led by Natalie Rogers-Cropper
The Fagan Technique is the teaching method Garth Fagan, company Founder and Distinguished Artistic Director Emeritus, developed hand-in-hand with his own choreography when he started his ensemble in 1970. The technique is a singular dance language drawing from the sense of weight in modern dance, the torso-centered movement and energy of Afro-Caribbean, the speed and precision of ballet, and the rule breaking experimentation of the post moderns.
The style is virtuosic, dynamic and unmannered and the technique prepares the body for the wide range of movement found in Garth Fagan’s choreography. Fagan Technique has long been recognized for its ability to increase the performing careers of dancers, a direct result of the emphasis on coordination, strength, power, flexibility, seamless transitions and musicality.
Natalie Rogers-Cropper is the Executive Director of Garth Fagan Dance, Bessie Award winner and Assistant Choreographer of The Lion King, and former principal dancer of the company.
