Limon Dance Company

Tue Nov 5 - Sun Nov 10

The Limón Dance Company celebrates its 78th season with a powerhouse program that illustrates José Limón’s perspective as an outsider and underscores his lasting influence on generations to come. Audiences will explore a rich tapestry of stories and emotions, with each piece acting as a window into the lives of those who often remain unseen.

The program opens with Limón’s masterful retelling of Gethsemane in The Traitor, followed by his playful drumming quartet Scherzo, which hasn’t been seen onstage in nearly 45 years.  The world premiere of a new work by Bessie award winning choreographer Kayla Farrish enthralls with a reimagining of two lost Limón works and examines themes of collective work, unity, and the quest for identity.

Embodying the excellence of early modern dance, the second act opens with live music for Doris Humphrey’s captivating solo, Two Ecstatic Themes, and is followed by Limón’s masterwork Missa Brevis, a poignant tribute to resilience amidst the ruins of war. Performed on an exposed stage with groundbreaking gender-neutral casting this monumental work is a declaration of the strength of the human spirit.
